Upcycling in Bollnäs

”The goal of the upcycling work is to reduce the amount of material that goes to recycling by 80%. We want to achieve this by designing a number of products from submitted and recycled materials that have a demanded function, attractive design, and long-lasting sustainability.”

About the project

In the project, Fritidsbanken Bollnäs will investigate the conditions for starting a long-term effort with upcycling. Through a pre-study, the project will map possible material flows, organization, collaborations, and sales solutions to create a sustainable model where recycled material gets new life through design and production. The project has both environmental and social goals, with the ambition to reduce the amount of material that goes to recycling or landfill and to create meaningful employment and participation for people who are outside the labor market.

Purpose
The purpose of the project is to map the conditions for being able to start an upcycling effort in Bollnäs.

The goal of the project is:
– Create a strategy and plan for how an upcycling effort can be implemented. From collection of materials, design, production to sales.
– Create networks in the municipality for the implementation of an upcycling effort.
– Write a final report.

The project consists of:
– Current situation analysis.
– Investigation of which products can be manufactured and which materials can be collected.
– Investigate how an upcycling effort should be organized.
– Networking with stakeholders and partners.
– Create a plan and strategy for an upcycling effort in Bollnäs.
– Make a final report.
– Administration, accounting, and report writing
